Frequently Asked Questions
New to boxing or just new to Jonesy’s? Here are answers to the most common questions so you can walk through the door with confidence.
Getting Started
No. Most people who walk through the door are beginners. We coach stance, guard, footwork, and punch mechanics in a way that lets you learn at your pace while still getting a solid workout.
No. Jonesy’s is a boxing fitness and skills gym with no sparring and no head contact. We train like boxers, build real skills, and protect your long term health.
Wear comfortable workout clothes, supportive shoes, and bring water. If you have your own boxing gloves and hand wraps, bring those too. If not, we can help you with what you need when you arrive.
For your first visit, plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early so we can get you checked in, walk you through the space, and go over stance and basic movements before class starts.
How Classes Work
Classes follow a consistent rhythm. You can expect:
- A short briefing and warm up.
- Boxing rounds that build stance, footwork, and combinations.
- Strength and conditioning using dumbbells, kettlebells, bands, and bodyweight.
- Mobility or breathing work to finish so you leave feeling better, not wrecked.
These are the four core class types at Jonesy’s:
- Foundations focuses on clean technique, stance, footwork, and punch mechanics.
- Power builds strength for better punching and everyday movement.
- Engine improves conditioning with controlled bag work and footwork.
- Flow blends boxing, strength, and conditioning into one hybrid session.
Most people feel great training two to four times per week. New boxers often start with two sessions to learn the rhythm, then build to three or four as their conditioning and schedule allow.
Yes. Classes are coached with options and progressions. You can scale intensity, modify movements, and take extra breathers as needed. Always let your coach know about injuries or limitations so we can help you train safely.
Rookies · Contenders · Champs
Jonesy’s runs three primary age groups:
- Rookies · ages 8 to 12
- Contenders · ages 13 to 17
- Champs · adults 18 and up
Each group trains with age-appropriate coaching, intensity, and expectations.
Youth classes are built around skill, confidence, and character. Rookies and Contenders learn proper stance, guard, footwork, and basic combinations while also working on discipline, focus, and respect for others.
In most cases, yes. We encourage a supportive environment and want parents to see how their kids train. We simply ask that you allow the coach to lead the session and keep the floor free of distractions.
Boxing and strength work at Jonesy’s can fit alongside school sports as long as recovery is respected. Many Contenders use Jonesy’s as a way to build conditioning, coordination, and resilience that carries over to the court or field.
The Why Behind Jonesy’s
Jonesy’s grew out of coach Brad Jones’ own fight with advanced stage prostate cancer. In the middle of radiation and chemotherapy, boxing fitness became a way to move, stay strong, and push back against what treatment was taking away.
After ringing the bell and stepping into life after cancer, Brad decided to build a place where everyday people could train like athletes, protect their health, and rediscover what their bodies are capable of.
Many people at Jonesy’s are rebuilding from something: stress, injury, illness, or a long season of feeling stuck. As long as your doctor clears you for exercise, we can help you scale movements and intensity so you can train safely and steadily.
Yes. In addition to group classes, Jonesy’s offers options for one-on-one and small group coaching for clients who want more individualized attention, specific goals, or support around health history. Reach out if you would like to discuss a custom plan.
